MSBA Invites Town of Needham to Launch Feasibility Study for Hillside Elementary School

State Treasurer Steven Grossman, Chairman of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (“MSBA”), and Jack McCarthy, MSBA Executive Director, announced today that the MSBA Board voted to invite the Town of Needham to collaborate on a Feasibility Study to look at possible solutions to the deficiencies identified at the Hillside Elementary School.

“We are committed to working with Needham officials to find the best alternative for the Hillside Elementary School,” said Treasurer Grossman. “This collaboration will develop a cost-effective solution that ensures Needham students can develop and flourish in a state-of-the art, 21st century learning environment.”

Hillside Elementary School was constructed in 1959. The building area is approximately 47,200 square feet. The District has identified deficiencies in building systems including mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

“This Feasibility Study will carefully examine all potential solutions to help us develop the most effective plan,” stated Executive Director McCarthy. “We look forward to partnering with the District to move this potential project forward.”

The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally appropriate, flexible, sustainable and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its 2004 inception, the Authority has made over 1,350 site visits to more than 250 school districts as part of its due diligence process and has made over $10.7 billion in reimbursements for education capital improvement projects.
