MSBA Invites Taunton to Launch Feasibility Study for the James L. Mulcahey Elementary School

State Treasurer Deborah B. Goldberg, Chair of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), and MSBA Executive Director Jack McCarthy announced today that the MSBA Board of Directors voted to invite the City of Taunton to collaborate on a Feasibility Study to address the deficiencies identified at the James L. Mulcahey Elementary School.

“This Feasibility Study will carefully examine all potential solutions to help us develop the most effective plan,” stated Treasurer Goldberg. “We look forward to partnering with the District to move this potential project forward.”

Mulcahey Elementary School is an 85,534 square foot facility. The school was built in 1954, with an addition made in 1980. The District has identified deficiencies in major building systems including electrical, HVAC and windows.

“We are committed to finding an acceptable alternative for the Mulcahey Elementary School,” said Executive Director McCarthy. “Our partnership with local officials in Taunton will ensure the best solution for the City’s elementary school students.”

The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally appropriate, flexible, sustainable and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its 2004 inception, the Authority has made over 1,600 site visits to more than 250 school districts as part of its due diligence process and has made over $11.5 billion in reimbursements for school construction projects.
