Treasurer Grossman and the MSBA Announce 2014 "My Ideal School" Contest Winners

Eight Winners to be honored at special State House ceremony

State Treasurer Steven Grossman, Chairman of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (“MSBA”), and Jack McCarthy, Executive Director of the MSBA, are pleased to announce the eight winners of the 8th Annual “My Ideal School” Contest. The contest was open to all 1st grade students throughout the Commonwealth and was designed to promote a discussion between students and teachers about how to create effective learning facilities.

Students were asked to create images of what their ideal school would look like and to describe three things they love about their school. Regional winners were honored at a special ceremony at the Massachusetts State House on June 5, 2014.  The drawing submitted by one lucky grand prize winner will also appear on the cover of the 2014 MSBA Annual Report.

“The entries that we received were both thoughtful and diverse, and I’m delighted that so many children are excited about their school environments,” said Grossman.  “Enhancing school pride through initiatives like the My Ideal School competition helps to build a lifetime of learning.”

“We received about 2,000 entries from students throughout the Commonwealth which is very impressive,” stated Executive Director McCarthy.  “Treasurer Grossman and I encourage each of the winners and every student who participated to continue to let us know how we can help build effective and sustainable schools for present and future generations of students.”

The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally-appropriate, flexible, sustainable and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its 2004 inception, the Authority has made over 1,100 site visits to more than 250 school districts as part of its due diligence process and has made over $10.5 billion in reimbursements for education capital improvement projects.
