The MSBA has contacted cities, towns, districts that are candidates for the MSBA’s Science Lab Initiative. If your city, town, or district is being considered to participate in this program, please read the vote requirement information below.
Generally, it is premature for a city, town, or regional school district to authorize and appropriate funding for a feasibility study that has not been approved by the MSBA. However, the MSBA understands that given local meeting schedules, certain cities, towns and districts may decide to vote to authorize and appropriate funding for a feasibility study only in advance of an invitation to participate in the MSBA’s Science Lab Initiative. Nevertheless, cities, towns, and districts that decide to vote at this early stage should be aware that they are proceeding at their own risk and that the MSBA may not ultimately invite them to participate in the Science Lab Initiative.
Cities, towns, and districts that decide to vote to authorize and appropriate funding for a feasibility study in advance of an invitation to participate in the MSBA’s Science Lab Initiative and cities, towns, and districts that are invited to participate in the MSBA’s Science Lab Initiative, should refer to the MSBA Vote Requirements page for more information regarding the MSBA's standard vote language.
Communities should contact the MSBA before finalizing an article, motion, resolution, ballot question or other vote because there may be additional requirements depending on the particulars of a proposed feasibility study or proposed project.
***** Please note, cities, towns, and districts that would like to participate in the MSBA’s Science Lab Initiative should NOT vote to authorize and appropriate funding for any costs beyond a feasibility study prior to being approved for a Science Lab Initiative project by the MSBA. *****
