Model School Task Force

Model School Task Force

The Model School Task Force was created to provide recommendations for supplementing and improving the Model School Program. This Task Force will focus on recommendations that incorporate the established goals of the program, which are to:

  • Maximize value of existing, proven school design and best practices;
  • Avoid perpetuating fads in education and design by selecting enduring, educationally-sound designs;
  • Allow for compressed project schedule and accelerated construction start, thus reducing uncertainty of inflation in construction and project costs;
  • Simplify the design process and reduce design fees;
  • Enhance predictability of project cost and performance resulting in improved quality control and reduced change orders; and
  • Provide opportunity for districts to experience the model before selecting a design.
As a result of the Model School Task Force meetings, the MSBA drafted a memo summarizing various comments and suggestions made by Task Force members. Following these meetings, MSBA staff began meeting regularly to evaluate the ideas presented in the memo to incorporate them into a complete set of recommendations for MSBA consideration. The MSBA will utilize feedback from other public entities, such as the Office of the Inspector General and the Office of the Attorney General, to continue to develop and finalize these recommendations to be presented to the MSBA Board of Directors for approval.
