Update to the MSBA's Closed School Policy
Please be advised that the Massachusetts School Building Authority (the “MSBA”) has updated its Closed School Policy (the “Policy”). This Policy explains how the sale, lease, or closure of a public-school facility, or portion thereof, may affect a school district’s eligibility for future MSBA funding.
It also establishes the requirements and necessary procedures applicable to the sale, lease, or closure of an MSBA Assisted Facility (i.e., a school facility that is currently receiving or has received an MSBA grant for construction, renovation, or repair within the last 20 years) and the financial obligations that may arise if the facility being sold, leased, or closed ever received MSBA assistance.
In addition, the MSBA has published a Frequently Asked Questions document (the “FAQ”) to supplement the Policy. The FAQ addresses common questions regarding the application of the Policy and should be reviewed in conjunction with the Policy.
The Policy and FAQ are available at the links below and on the MSBA’s Guidelines & Forms webpage under “Policies, Forms & Guidelines.”
