Treasurer Grossman and Executive Director McCarthy Honor the Winners of the 6th Annual "My Ideal School" Contest
Treasurer Steven Grossman, Chair of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), and Jack McCarthy, MSBA Executive Director, today hosted an awards ceremony at the Massachusetts State House to honor the winners of the 2012 “My Ideal School” Contest.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for students and teachers to work together to articulate their values and priorities,” said Treasurer Grossman. “The contest also helps the MSBA understand which aspects of schools are most important to the people working and learning in them every day.”
The contest was open to first grade students and was designed to promote a discussion between students and teachers about how to create effective learning communities. Students were asked to create images of what their ideal school would look like and to describe three things they love about their school.
Twelve regional winners were chosen to each receive a $100 savings bond generously donated by Sovereign Bank. One lucky grand prize winner, Yeva Medvedeva of Waterford Street School in Gardner, received a $200 savings bond and will have her “My Ideal School” Contest picture featured on the cover of next year’s MSBA Annual Report. The names of the winners are listed below along with a link to the winning drawings.
"Treasurer Grossman and I are delighted to celebrate the work of these talented students,” said Executive Director McCarthy. “I congratulate all of the winners and encourage them to continue to help us understand how we can improve school facilities across the Commonwealth."
The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally-appropriate, flexible, sustainable, and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its creation, the MSBA made more than $8.7 billion in payments to Massachusetts school districts. These timely payments made by the MSBA to cities, towns, and regional school districts for school construction projects have saved municipalities over $2.9 billion in avoided local interest costs and have provided much needed cash flow to communities.
