Jack McCarthy, Executive Director of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), joined local officials at a groundbreaking ceremony for the addition and renovation project at the Anne T. Dunphy Elementary School. The MSBA is contributing 61.86% of eligible expenses to this $12.9 million project.
State Treasurer Steven Grossman, Chair of the MSBA Board of Directors, expressed delight over the Authority’s participation in the long-awaited project. “Thanks to the MSBA’s successful partnership with Williamsburg, students and staff of Dunphy Elementary School will benefit from a state-of-the-art learning and teaching environment for many years to come,” Treasurer Grossman said.
The MSBA-funded additions will facilitate a grade reconfiguration that combines the district’s elementary school population into a single facility of approximately 37,850 square feet. The expanded Dunphy School will serve 170 students from Kindergarten through grade 6. The project will also address deficiencies in the building’s HVAC system. The Anne T. Dunphy Elementary School was built in 1953.
“This is a down payment on the academic excellence of Williamsburg students,” said Executive Director McCarthy. “Upon completion, the expanded school will create the space badly needed to deliver the district’s educational commitments.”
The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally-appropriate, flexible, sustainable, and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its 2004 inception, the Authority has made over $9.7 billion in reimbursements for school capital improvement projects. MSBA reimbursements have saved districts over $2.9 billion in avoided local interest costs and have provided much needed cash flow to communities.
