MSBA Approves $29.7M for the New Monomoy Regional High School

The MSBA Board approved the schematic design for the Model School

State Treasurer Steven Grossman, Chairman of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (“MSBA”), and Jack McCarthy, MSBA Executive Director, announced today that the MSBA Board of Directors voted to approve the schematic design and funding for the new Monomoy Regional High School. One of the next steps is for the District and the MSBA to enter into a Project Funding Agreement, which will detail the project’s scope and budget and set forth the terms and conditions under which the District will receive its grant from the MSBA. The District is eligible to receive reimbursement from the MSBA for 51.53% of eligible expenses with a maximum Total Facilities Grant for the Monomoy project of $29,696,270.

“The Model School initiative has been a resounding success, and I’m excited that Monomoy’s needs are a good fit for the program,” said Treasurer Grossman. “By participating in the Model School Program and utilizing the best design elements from other successful school construction projects, the district increases its reimbursement rate, saving money for local taxpayers.”

The project will serve a combined population of Harwich and Chatham students in a new Regional High School located on the existing Harwich High School site.

“Model Schools use existing, proven facilities as patterns to produce top-notch schools in a shortened time-frame,” said Executive Director McCarthy. “We are delighted to be taking part in this project.”

The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally-appropriate, flexible, sustainable, and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its inception, the Authority has made $8.9 billion in reimbursements for school construction projects. These timely payments have saved municipalities over $2.9 billion in avoided local interest costs and have provided much needed cash flow to communities.
