Jack McCarthy Attends Groundbreaking Ceremony for Hill Elementary School in Revere

Jack McCarthy, Executive Director of the Massachusetts School Building Authority (“MSBA”), today took part in a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Sergeant James J. Hill Elementary School. The MSBA is reimbursing 80% percent of eligible costs toward the $45,402,396 project, which will serve 690 students from pre-Kindergarten through grade 5.

“I am delighted that the MSBA is helping break ground on this important and long-awaited project,” said State Treasurer and MSBA Chair Steven Grossman. “Thanks to the MSBA’s successful partnership with Revere, students and staff of Hill Elementary School will benefit from a state-of-the-art learning and teaching environment for many years to come.”

The project consists of a new, 103,650 square foot school, which will replace the William McKinley Elementary School.  The building is organized around a central two-story lobby, which shares views into the cafeteria, media center and administration area. The cafeteria and gym will overlook the new stadium being built by the City. McKinley Elementary School was built in 1905 and suffers from deficiencies in major building systems, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, roof and windows.

“We found the most economical and educationally-appropriate solution to the problems at McKinley Elementary School,” Executive Director McCarthy said. “This project will not only result in a top-notch learning facility for the children of the district, but its construction will also create well-paying jobs.”

The MSBA partners with Massachusetts communities to support the design and construction of educationally-appropriate, flexible, sustainable and cost-effective public school facilities. Since its 2004 inception, the Authority has made over $10.4 billion in reimbursements for school capital improvement projects. MSBA reimbursements have saved districts over $2.9 billion in avoided local interest costs and have provided much needed cash flow to communities.
